Rodney Workman

Rodney Workman is a graduate of Appalachian State University, and Past-President of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. He was band director at Central Davison High School for 12 years before coming to Asheville High School, and before that taught at East Burke Middle School.

In addition to his school work, Mr. Workman has served on staff for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Summer Music Camp, Cannon Music Camp and Mars Hill University’s Summer Music Camp. He is also a conductor of the Carolina Ambassador’s Honor Band, which means Mr. Workman’s students have performed in concert halls across England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy. 

Mr. Workman is a member of the National Band Association, the American School Band Director’s Association, the Gamma Beta Phi Society, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

LaQuan Wiley

JaQuan Wiley graduated from Appalachian State University in December 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education (K-12 Certification). Prior to joining Asheville High School, Mr. Wiley served as Director of Bands at Wheatmore High School in Trinity, NC. Throughout his time at Appalachian State, Mr. Wiley was a two-year drum major of the Appalachian Marching Mountaineers.

Mr. Wiley has been active as a drum major judge for marching band festivals in North Carolina and has presented as a collegiate panelist at the annual North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem, NC. This summer, Mr. Wiley will be entering his third season as a counselor at Cannon Music Camp in Boone, NC.

Jessica Zander

Jessica Zander is the percussion instructor for the marching band, working both battery and front ensemble. She also does the majority of the arranging. Jessica is a graduate of Western Carolina University.
