Domino’s “Slice the Price” Fundraiser

Hands up who wants some pizza!

The band will be selling Domino’s Pizza “Slice the Price” Cards. Each card entitles you to an unlimited number of Buy-One-Get-One-Free large pizzas at Domino’s from now until the end of the year!

Cards cost $10 each, and half of that amount goes directly into each student’s band account.

Students will bring order forms home on Monday, February 29th, and will have two weeks to take orders for the cards.

Goal: As these cards are great value, we hope each student will sell 12 cards. (As well as earning $60 for themselves, there’s a free T-shirt in for the students who sell 12.)

Cards will be sent to the school within two weeks after submitting the order forms, and students will then distribute them to the buyers.)

Key selling points:

  • Unlimited Buy-One-Get-One-Free large pizzas until Dec 31, 2016!
  • Cards are accepted at all local Dominos Pizza locations.
  • Card pays for itself the first time you use it!
  • Each card can be reused all year.
Perfect for sleepovers, work parties, fundraisers, class parties, and family movie nights.

*Required for EVERYONE.  Anyone who cannot attend full band camp will not be written into the drill, and will be placed as an alternate.

We will also have a spring mini training camp in May, before school gets out.  I will get those dates out as soon as I get the testing schedule.  This will be an opportunity for us to get a head start on visual training and music, and will be required for all students planning to march in the fall.

I will send out Commitment Forms in March.  I will not have the fall marching band schedule until I get the fall athletics schedule.  I can tell you that we will plan to attend the Enka competition on September 24th, as well as two additional competitions in October.  PLEASE do not schedule anything on these dates.  I would try to avoid making plans on Friday’s in September and October, and Saturday’s in October until we can get the schedule out.  We need 100% at ALL performances.

There will be a Spring Informational Meeting on April 21st at 6:00pm in the band room.  This meeting is highly encouraged for ALL students and parents of marching band members.  I will go over expectations, fees, schedules, and much more at this meeting.  We will also reveal our 2016 field show at this meeting.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  I am looking forward to the 2016 season, but I’m definitely not ready to see our Class of 2015 go! 🙁

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Thanks,

Emily Talley

Crowdfund AHS marching band all the way to Pearl Harbor

Getting the Asheville High School Band and all our gear to Hawaii to perform as part of the ceremonies to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing and our entry into WWII is a mammoth and expensive undertaking. The students and band association are organizing a large number of fundraisers to help ensure that all band members can make the trip.

Help Send the Asheville High School Marching Band to Pearl Harbor

We have launched an appeal on the crowdfunding site FirstGiving so that Asheville community members, AHS alumni, and friends can contribute directly to the band. As you will see, the financial goal is large, so please share the link among family, friends, and anyone you feel may be willing to help our students achieve their goals.

We have a very diverse group of students at Asheville High School. Many of our students receive free/reduced lunch and will not be able to afford this trip on their own. All students are fundraising every month to help them make their payments, but even that will not be enough to help everyone.

Our students are 100% committed to excellence and strive to represent Asheville High School positively at all times — that history of excellence was a prime factor in our being invited to perform at the 75th anniversary ceremonies. We are honored to have the opportunity to represent Asheville High School, our community, and the state of North Carolina in this parade.

Please consider donating so that EVERY student may join us in Pearl Harbor!

Follow this link for more information about upcoming fundraising events for the AHS Bands.

Donations can also be mailed to: Asheville High School Band Association, PO Box 772, Asheville, NC 28802

(Please make checks payable to Asheville High School Band Association)

Thank you in advance for your support!

AHS Band Thanks Frank’s Roman Pizza

The Asheville High School Marching Band thanks tonight’s Dinner Drum Major: Frank’s Roman Pizza.
Franks_Roman_Pizza_logo_local_flavor_avl_visit_explore_food_asheville
Frank’s Roman Pizza has provided dinner for the entire band before for our first home game tonight. Frank’s and owner Barry Gardner are long-time AHS band supporters, and we appreciate their continued generosity!
Tonight’s game is AHS vs Franklin.
Kickoff is at 7:30pm. Come out and support both the football team and our band students!

About AHS Band Dinner Drum Majors

Dinner Drum Majors sponsor a meal for the band before home games. This year, the students stay at AHS all afternoon on Fridays to prepare for their performance, making dinner a necessity.
To become a Dinner Drum Major or support the band in other ways, contact fundraising committee member Noel Nickle…

Events for the week of 8/17/15

All marching band students need to have a three ring binder (1″ is fine) for their warm-up book by this Friday.  Please put your name on it as it is easy to mistake someone else’s things for your own if it is not labeled.
Here is the schedule of events for this week.
Wednesday, August 19th-First Day of School
-We will rehearse inside this day.
-Colorguard Practice after school, 4:30pm-7pm
Thursday, August 20th-AHSBA Executive Board Meeting, 6:00pm AHS Band Room
Friday, August 21st- FIRST PERFORMANCE!!! 🙂
-Big Siblings: Please remember to do something special!
-After School Practice, 3:30pm-5pm
-Dinner in Cafeteria, 5pm-6pm
-Call Time, 6pm in Band Room
-Students should wear jeans (with no holes), their band t-shirt, and tennis shoes
-PARENTS: After the game is over please wait for your child outside the band room.  It is incredibly crowded in the band room with 150 students.
-STUDENTS: Please do not bring any friends/siblings into the band room.  We barely have enough space for our own students and our rule is that only band students are allowed in the band room.  Please help us maintain this policy.
-EVERYONE is responsible for cleaning up the band room before you leave Friday night.  We must take care of our space. Parents, please plan on giving them a little time to take care of this before you pick them up.  If everyone contributes it shouldn’t take long.
Saturday, August 22nd-AHSBA Exec Board Retreat, 9am-1pm
Saturday, August 22nd-Zombie Moving Party! 2pm-5pm
-If you are available, please come help us transfer all of our haunted house materials from the trailer to our new storage container.  We will meet in the band room at 2pm. You should probably bring gloves….I’m pretty sure the zombies have been perspiring for the past 10 months!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I look forward to seeing everyone at Friday’s performance!
Thanks,
Emily Talley

Storage Container Delivered

It’s here!  The storage we’ve been waiting for.

After a demolition derby of smashed cars getting the truck to the site our driver expertly dropped our new 40′ x 8′ x 9′ shipping container in place.

Why?  To hold all our great stuff! Like the haunted house decorations, old music and instruments, unruly freshman, the usual stuff.

Next we move all the stuff out of the trailer into the container.  We’ll need a bunch of volunteers.  Stay tuned true believers!
