Haunted High takes place at Asheville High School on Friday October 28 and Saturday October 29, and people are getting excited!

haunted-high-yard-signThe Mountain Xpress, Citizen-Times, and WLOS have all run pieces on the event, and our nifty yard-signs are popping up all over town. (They look much better than the election posters!)

Tickets are available from any AHS band student, at the door, or online, and admission is just $10…

Please work to get the word out this week! Share our Facebook event, post images (below) to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or wherever you hang out online, and tell your friends, neighbors, and families.

We have a creepy promo video on youtube to give people a glimpse of what to expect. Please share it widely!

Talley’s Sunday night announcements

STUDENTS- Please bring proper shoes for marching band class tomorrow. We will go outside during 4th period.

Mr. Bass will be posting materials for jazz band auditions this week.  If you are interested be sure to get them.  Auditions will be held the following week.

We have our first away game on THURSDAY of this week.  Details for the trip are below.  Remember, students need to attend 2 of 3 away games in a nine week period.  This grading period is a little weird because we didn’t go to the first away game, and we are having a required rehearsal in place of the next away game.  What that means is this weeks away game will be just for those who want to come.  🙂  Please fill out this survey if you plan to come so that I know how many buses to get.  For the parents of new members, you should know that the students really enjoy the away games and have a great time.  Students need to wear their band t-shirt, tennis shoes, and jean pants. No shorts.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N7HYG3H

Once I put out our schedule for the year I try my best to stick to it and not make any additions.  We are hoping to do something very special at our last home game and would need to bring in some new staff to teach the band the show on Sunday, October 23rd.  If everyone could please fill out this very short survey to let me know if you’re available, I would greatly appreciate it.  The rehearsal would be from 1pm-6pm.  We will learn a new halftime show that is very different from anything we have ever done.  This is something that our community will love and I really hope we can make it work.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NLZPBH5

Sectionals will begin next week (Sept 6).  Each section will have one sectional a week before or after school.  Students will work with their section leader to choose a time and a day that works for everyone.  Please remember that we will be out on Monday, Sept 5 for Labor Day when scheduling sectionals.

Reminder: There is a required rehearsal on Friday, September 9th in place of the away game.  I am hoping to do 4pm-9pm to get the rest of the opener on the field, but it will depend on the other sports teams.  We may only be able to do 6pm-9pm.  I will let you know asap.  If we do 4-9 I will make sure the kids are fed.

If anyone sews, we are going to need quite a few extra hands with some upcoming projects.  Please let me know if you’re able to help and we will work out a time to get together.  Our guard parents will be working on 4 large parachutes, and Audra Holden has designed an AWESOME insert for our uniforms that will have to be sewn into 120 custom sized uniform inserts. 🙂

This weeks events:

Monday: Nothing

Tuesday: Nothing

Wednesday: Nothing

Thursday: Away Game at Pisgah High School

Bus will depart AHS at 5:15pm and will stop for fast food on the way.  We will plan to return around 10:30pm.  I will send out a text to let everyone know when we are leaving Pisgah HS.

Friday: Nothing

ENJOY A LONG WEEKEND! 🙂 No game, no school Monday! 😮

Tonight’s Performance (August 26)

Just a reminder that all students should report to the band room by 6pm on Friday evening (August 26th).  Please be on time so we can rehearse as many stands tunes as possible before the game.

Students should wear their band T-shirt, jeans (shorts or pants but if they are shorts they need to be dress code appropriate), and tennis shoes.

Parents, if you’re planning on going to the game you can park at ABTech or the student parking lot at AHS.

Band members are required to stay for the entire game and typically finish around 9:30pm.

Please wait for your child outside the band room rather than coming in. It gets extremely crowded with 160 members so only students will be allowed in the band room after the game.

Students, we have a few rules for the stands:

  • Absolutely no one in the band section other than band members.
  • Playing during the game is a performance and your attention should be directed to what is going on on the field.
  • You will have time to socialize with friends during half time. No food or drink in the stands until half time.
  • Once halftime is finished all trash needs to be thrown away, and no food or drink through the remainder of the game. Water, of course, is permitted at all times.
  • Make sure you have all of your music.
  • Stay in your section for the entire game.
  • Do not play anyone else’s instrument at any time.
  • And most importantly, have fun! We can be ready to play and represent ourselves positively while also having a great time. 🙂

Domino’s “Slice the Price” Fundraiser

Hands up who wants some pizza!

The band will be selling Domino’s Pizza “Slice the Price” Cards. Each card entitles you to an unlimited number of Buy-One-Get-One-Free large pizzas at Domino’s from now until the end of the year!

Cards cost $10 each, and half of that amount goes directly into each student’s band account.

Students will bring order forms home on Monday, February 29th, and will have two weeks to take orders for the cards.

Goal: As these cards are great value, we hope each student will sell 12 cards. (As well as earning $60 for themselves, there’s a free T-shirt in for the students who sell 12.)

Cards will be sent to the school within two weeks after submitting the order forms, and students will then distribute them to the buyers.)

Key selling points:

  • Unlimited Buy-One-Get-One-Free large pizzas until Dec 31, 2016!
  • Cards are accepted at all local Dominos Pizza locations.
  • Card pays for itself the first time you use it!
  • Each card can be reused all year.
Perfect for sleepovers, work parties, fundraisers, class parties, and family movie nights.

Crowdfund AHS marching band all the way to Pearl Harbor

Getting the Asheville High School Band and all our gear to Hawaii to perform as part of the ceremonies to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing and our entry into WWII is a mammoth and expensive undertaking. The students and band association are organizing a large number of fundraisers to help ensure that all band members can make the trip.

Help Send the Asheville High School Marching Band to Pearl Harbor

We have launched an appeal on the crowdfunding site FirstGiving so that Asheville community members, AHS alumni, and friends can contribute directly to the band. As you will see, the financial goal is large, so please share the link among family, friends, and anyone you feel may be willing to help our students achieve their goals.

We have a very diverse group of students at Asheville High School. Many of our students receive free/reduced lunch and will not be able to afford this trip on their own. All students are fundraising every month to help them make their payments, but even that will not be enough to help everyone.

Our students are 100% committed to excellence and strive to represent Asheville High School positively at all times — that history of excellence was a prime factor in our being invited to perform at the 75th anniversary ceremonies. We are honored to have the opportunity to represent Asheville High School, our community, and the state of North Carolina in this parade.

Please consider donating so that EVERY student may join us in Pearl Harbor!

Follow this link for more information about upcoming fundraising events for the AHS Bands.

Donations can also be mailed to: Asheville High School Band Association, PO Box 772, Asheville, NC 28802

(Please make checks payable to Asheville High School Band Association)

Thank you in advance for your support!
